House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appears to have caved to pressure from Republicans and a growing number of Senate Democrats. She has set a Tuesday meeting to consult with House Democrats regarding how to proceed with releasing the two articles of impeachment against President Trump. In a letter to colleagues yesterday, she wrote:
I have asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to be prepared to bring to the Floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate.
Her decision came amid increasing calls by several Democrat Senators to "get on with it." Also, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced a resolution on Monday to empower the Senate to dismiss the articles of impeachment for lack of prosecution. Several GOP Senators supported the resolution, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
The resolution would give the House 25 days to send articles of impeachment to the Senate. All but three House Democrats voted to impeach the President for "abuse of power" and "obstruction of Congress" on December 18. That was 24 days ago.
