On Wednesday, the day before a House vote officially authorized the impeachment-inquiry Witch Hunt, Grassfire staff received an email from a contact inside Senate Majority Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) office. He shared what McConnell said on the Senate floor about the Democrats' investigation into President Trump and their efforts to remove him from office:
"No due process now, maybe some later, but only if we feel like it" is not a standard that should every be applied to any American. And it should not be applied here to the president of the United States.
Shortly after Thursday's vote, we heard from the Trump campaign. That email read, in part:
This impeachment nonsense is just a continuation of the Witch Hunt Hoax, which has been going on since before I even got elected. ... They want to ERASE your vote like it never existed, they want to ERASE your voice, and they want to ERASE your future.
Almost exactly four hours later, Grassfire received an email from House Minority Leader Mike McCarthy (R-CA). He wrote:
100% of Republicans just voted against the impeachment sham. Two Democrats joined us. For months, Nancy Pelosi has insisted that impeachment should be bipartisan, but the only bipartisan vote today was AGAINST impeachment.
Make no mistake about it—today is a dark day for Congress, because it is about more than the fairness of the impeachment process. It is about the integrity of our electoral process. Democrats are trying to impeach the President because they are scared they can’t defeat him at the ballot box.
