Republican Senators "pitched a shutout" yesterday against Democrats determined to extend the Witch Hunt against President Trump. Kudos to the GOP for standing strong AGAINST impeachment -- and FOR America's Commander-in-Chief!
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced 11 amendments during Tuesday's marathon session in the Upper Chamber. Democrats were haggling for additional witnesses and/or documents related to the House investigation of the President.
Republicans voted down every one of them. In fact, Schumer managed to wrangle only one GOP Senator, Susan Collins from Maine, to support his final, proposed amendment.
It was a long day and night on Capitol Hill that finally ended after 1:00 a.m. ET this morning. That's when Senators voted 53-47 (once again along strict party lines) to approve Organizing Resolution, S.Res.483, EXACTLY as it was written and proposed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
(As we told you yesterday, S.Res.483 sets "the parameters for the initial [phase 1] proceedings" of the Senate trial. Based mostly on the rules used for Bill Clinton's impeachment trial, which were approved by Senators 100-0 in 1999, not a single Democrat supported it early this morning.)
